Wallowa’s Mountain Rebel: “Rebel”
Rebel in training - Domestic-bred Kiger

Michele Harris of Placerville, CA. had no idea how her life would change when she called on an ad posted about a Kiger for sale in December, 2003.  A stunning captive bred medium grullo colt, he immediately swept her off her feet as only a Kiger could do.  His calm disposition made the training transition from un-broke colt into reliable trail mount easy. Michele now uses Rebel for trail riding and an occasional show.

Bud & Rebel on the Trail - Domestic-bred Kiger horses

Leroy “Bud”
A year after Michele purchased Rebel; her husband Andy made the find of the century when he acquired Bud, an un-started colt from the Oregon ranch in the fall of 2005.  Another medium grullo gelding, he and Rebel are half brothers.  Fortunately, he has a small star or you could not tell them apart.  His disposition mirrors that of Rebel, as he is very patient and kind.  Andy enjoys trail riding on Bud thru the Sierra foothills.  When he and Michele take these 2 boys trail riding with Eli and Smoke, every horseman in the area stops to drool.

Wallowa’s Shadow Dancer “Shadow”

Ah yes, Shadow is a popular name for grullos.  Owned by Susan Hosto of Cazenovia, WI.  Susan fell in love with Eli’s Smoke when she was visiting California on vacation.  She asked Eli if he could find a horse that “looked just like him”. Originally hand picked by Eli to be his next life time mount, there was no doubt this was the horse she was looking for. He is a dead ringer for Eli’s first Kiger, Smoke.  A beautiful grullo gelding, he has the sweet disposition and willing attitude that Kigers are known for and has grown into a truly magnificent example of the Kiger Mesteno.  Susan uses him primarily for pleasure riding.

Wallowa’s Fancy Lass “Classy”
Wallowa's Fancy Lass "Classy" - Kiger filly Kiger horse in training

Owned by Karen Pardee of Sacramento, CA. Classy remains one of our favorites.  Her name sure fits, with classic bloodlines, excellent dun factor markings and very stylish carriage, this little honey dun mare has it all.  She is destined to be Karen’s next Search and Rescue mount.

Wallowa's Shadow Dancer -aka "Shadow" - Kiger horse

When Pam Perdue of West Sacramento, CA purchased Shadow in Spring 2006, she knew this filly was destined to be a real head turner.  A gorgeous grulla mare, she will be 15 HH before all her growing is done.  With a sweet, sensible personality, she has really come into her own with Pam.  Shown in Halter, English and Western, she is tough to beat.  This is evidenced by her winning the Halter Mares - Open competition at the 2007 National Kiger Show (Kigerfest).  With her confident and reliable personality, Shadow is destined to be Pam’s next Search and Rescue mount as well as a tough contender in the show ring.  Pam often trains with Sue at the KCA training facility and rides on the trail when she has the opportunity.

Wallowa’s Mountain Storm- “Chico

Chico is now owned by Pinie Minto of Elk Creek, CA.  Brought down from Northern Oregon in 2006 with Maverick and Bud, it was a toss up which of the 3 Eli would keep as his own horse.  One of his favorites, this dark grullo gelding has a personality and willingness to please that most horseman only dream of.  An owner of several other beautiful Kigers, Pinie is enjoying Chico’s natural ability as a working cow and ranch horse as well as a trail companion.

Billy Brio KCA “Billy”
Billy the Kiger

Teresa Trull of Lincoln, CA purchased Billy as soon as he stepped off the trailer in September, 2007.  He is a captive bred, medium grullo gelding with heavy dun factoring and a ‘What can I do for you?’ attitude.  Teresa is a well known horse trainer, clinician and singer both in the United States and in New Zealand. She has just opened a Tack company in New Zealand called "Kiwi Buckaroo" selling fine Buckaroo gear and McCall SaddlesBilly’s training has been the finest possible.  Within a month of capture she was riding Billy with Buck Branaman on the plains of Wyoming.

Cisco KCA “Cisco”

Amber Mecum of Sacramento, CA. has let this little colt steal her heart. Cisco is a wild caught med grullo Kiger gelding captured from the Riddle HMA as a yearling in November, 2007.  His very distinct markings and lively curious temperament is sure to make for a wonderful companion horse.  Amber plans to use him for trail riding and camping expeditions.  Her young son sees him as his future 4-H horse. Cisco is currently in training at our KCA facility in Lincoln.

 Note:

·      The prefix Wallowa’s in the horse’s names denotes the mountain range in Wallowa County, Oregon where these horses come from.

·      The Kigers de los Californios word mark is KCA which is used in our horses’ names and periodically in place of our full name.
